Getting Your Church Involved!

"Every church should be a training school for Christian workers. Its members should be taught how to give Bible readings, how to conduct and teach Sabbath-school classes, how best to help the poor and to care for the sick, how to work for the unconverted. There should be schools of health, cooking schools, and classes in various lines of Christian help work. There should not only be teaching, but actual work under experienced instructors. Let the teachers lead the way in working among the people, and others, uniting with them, will learn from their example. One example is worth more than many precepts." {Ministry of Healing 149.2}

Not every church is doing this work to its full potential and some churches, sadly are not doing this work at all. Yes, they may be putting on evangelistic series once in awhile, but they are NOT training the members how to do outreach for themselves. Here is the General Conference leaflet on "The Missionary Program for the Local Church"

IF you don't feel your church is a 'training' school perhaps you should find out why. Some churches don't know how, some have forgotten the mission, sometimes everyone is busy with other jobs, and sometimes elders/pastors have given up because no one is willing to help do the work, so YOU need to be willing.

FIRST call your pastor, see if your church IS providing training (or even your local conference - which is often doing far more than church members are aware of!!!), encourage them to get back on board with WHY GOD CALLED us to the gospel.

NEXT start learning for yourself and getting other excited about the Gospel Call. Training and resources for learning about outreach here.

THIRD petition your church to do the Empowered Church program. The Empowered Church program is a well laid-out plan, built on solid, biblical principles and the council of the Spirit of Prophecy. It will guide your church step by step in building an effective evangelism cycle where evangelism is seen as an ongoing process and not just a one-time event. It provides practical ways of being more effective in the areas of revival, church health, evangelism, and discipleship. Not only is this program designed to acquaint souls with the fundamental teaching of the church, it will also encourage spiritual growth and a commitment to Jesus Christ in all your members. There are five primary goals of the Empowered Church program:

1. Help the church establish an ongoing evangelism cycle.

2. Involve every department of the church in evangelism.

3. Encourage as many members as possible to be involved in soul-winning.

4. Ignite revival and spiritual renewal in the church.

5. Encourage the nurturing and discipleship of all believers.
